Episode Transcript
[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign.
[00:00:04] Speaker B: Welcome to the Canadian Basketball show your go to spot for the latest news stories and analysis on Canadian basketball. I'm your host Lee Ban Osmond. This is a special weekend episode. I just got back from the NBA draft in Brooklyn, New York covering Kitchener's own Will Riley who's headed to the Washington Wizards. A very fun NBA draft night. Seeing all his family and friends celebrate and Will walk across the stage and shake Adam Silver's hand as he was the 21st pick in the NBA draft. I did a whole story just covering Will's special night. You can go check it out. The Toronto Star, about 30 to 40 of his friends and family in attendance and he jumped on a private jet the day after the draft headed to D.C. and from what I know Washington has been tracking him for a while now and just speaking to people, they probably watched him more than any other team in the NBA since his high school days. So I think they'll have a really good plan for him. Really happy for Will just in general, just chatting with him, always making the time, such a hard worker and I think Washington will be a really good fit for him and I think in a few years we're all going to be like how the hell did will fall to 21?
The scoring instincts are there. He just needs to put it all together. The strength will come in due time.
And yeah, Will was the only Canadian drafted this year. But shortly after day two of the second round of the draft, both Ryan Nemhard and Jamil Telfer signed deals with NBA teams. Ryan Nemard headed to Dallas. I think that's a really good fit. Obviously Kyrie's out for quite a while so Ryan can earn some minutes and, and potentially be a backup point guard. Who knows he's got to fight for that but I think he can show that like size doesn't really matter especially if you have the IQ that Ryan does.
Let the NCAA and assist special player just needs to overcome that fact and I think he can and if not, he's going to be playing for Canada basketball for a while. A guy that definitely will be in the mix. Jamil Telford, another guy headed to the Clippers. I think he is another, he was a fringe obviously NBA guy all year, played five years at Butler but just has a grown man body and, and yeah, kind of. We, we did a whole preview to the draft and we talked about Jamil and how he fits in the NBA. So if you want to go check that out, go check last week's episode and I definitely think it's going to be a fun time watching these guys. I'll be in summer league, so gonna be watching these guys very closely and seeing how they're developing and just their first shot in the NBA, right? And then other guys too. I think Omax might be playing summer league.
I don't know if Leonard Miller's gonna be playing summer league. Emmanuel Miller, a lot of guys, Keyshawn George, a lot of Canadians will be at summer league. So I'll be out there and I'll be tracking it, giving you guys all the latest on Canadian talent in the NBA. But I'm bringing you this special weekend episode for a reason. The FIBA U19 World cup has started. This is a preview episode breaking down Canada's roster. I have interviews with two players actually on the roster, Tristan Beckford and Ifosa Oliogu. I chatted with them before Canada headed to France for some exhibition games than in Switzerland for the World cup where they're at right now. And since this episode is coming out on Saturday, don't expect an episode on Tuesday. I know I said every Tuesday. But you know, I want to give you guys a special back to back episode. So yeah, we'll have after this week I'll be Previewing the FIBA U19 for the women's team. I'll have head coach Marlo Davis in depth, chat with him just about the team before they headed out. But yeah, I want to talk about this team fiber u19 men's world cup and just go through the roster, give you my initial thoughts on the team players that I know I've kind of watched. I think all these guys, Aziz, Elijah on probably not in depth as the rest of these guys but I'll give you my thoughts on Aziz in a bit and I'm actually working on a store and Aziza. I'll tease that and we'll chat about it in a bit. But let me go through the 12 players representing Canada in Switzerland, Spencer Aarons, Tristan Beckford, Jordan Charles Matthew Dan Stephen Ilick, Maxime Mayer, Onyx Nanny, Adriel, Neora, Aziz Elijah on Ifos Oliogu, Jayon Pitt and Olivia Ru, seven six foot guy. I think this is a pretty solid tee for Canada.
I was at their media day at Humber College which is why I'm bringing you those interviews with Tristan and Ifosa. But a lot of excitement, a lot of excitement from the coaching staff about this roster. I have personally I have tempered expectations to be honest because and I'll be real with you, there's some names that I think that are missing from this roster like clear cut names that for whatever reason whether it was a Canada basketball decision or was the player's best interest to not suit up this summer that I think we're missing Canada at its full strength.
Guys like Miles Sadler obviously he's been injured just since the hoop summit. He played in the scrimmage and then hurt himself from there. Hasn't he's been kind of like working his way back played at the top 100 camp so I wasn't really expecting Miles but I think Miles could have been the best player on his team to be honest with you.
Paula Sarui 20:27 Guy I thought he would essentially be a huge part on this team not on the roster. Godson Okoku another name that I was hoping would be in the mix. I think he was invited to training camp but for whatever reason not on the roster. Rakim Green a guy that was not invited to U19 training camp.
I hope one day Rakim plays for Canada because I think he has a lot of potential. I'll be watching him. I'll be going out to Peach Jam later this summer so hoping to catch him play there and all the Arizona guys out there but I do think these guys could have elevated Canada at this World Cup. But I still think there's high level college players and potential NBA guys on this team. I'm happy to see Jordan Charles make the team. I don't do feel like he's a very underrated player. I have people from the States asking me about Jordan Charles all the time because they watched him on Basketball Without Borders at All Star Weekend this past year. So Jordan I'm excited for him. I was kind of like I don't know if he was going to make the roster a bit younger you know but very happy for him. I expect his like college offers to to ramp up and I do think he might be playing a huge part on this U19 team especially if teams want to ramp up the ball pressure on Canada. I think Jordan Charles can break that.
Maxine Mayer Max I've heard a lot of good things from people around him coaching staff at Canada basketball.
I do think he might be Canada's most reliable big man in this maybe him Matthew. Matthew Dan Honestly I think so.
So yeah a lot of praise for mayor so we'll see what he looks like at the FIBA U19 World Cup. IMG Academy guy kind of similar route as Zach Edie as Olivia Rue we'll get to in a bit but those pathways it feels like the IMG Path for Canadians is the way to go. I wonder if Jeremy go here. Young Canadian guy that played U16 will go on a similar path, but another name, Steven Illich. Hopefully I'm pronouncing that right. I was surprised honestly that he named. He was named to the roster, but honestly it was a good surprise because I think he has a lot of good upside. I was glad to see him. He's a class of 2027 guy, so I wonder how much he'll play. But I'm glad to see him kind of in the mix with this team. I do think this is a very, very big summer for Oliver.
Thinking back to Zach Edie's FIBA U19 summer in 2021, the guy averaged 15 points, 14 rebounds, 2.3 blocks.
And if Olivier wants to have like that trajectory, I think it's crucial that he has a good summer for Canada. And I'm not expecting like Zach Eddy level of dominance, but I want to see what he's been working on this past year after redshirting for Florida. He was the only guy that was in college this past year that is on this FIBA UNAN team.
So I want to see what he's learned, especially on a championship team.
[00:08:56] Speaker C: Right.
[00:08:57] Speaker B: Florida just won the chip. He's been on that roster, learned from guys that just entered the NBA. Elijah Martin, who just got drafted by the Toronto Raptors.
So I'm very excited to see what he does to see the development there. And I don't want to say this is a make a bridge summer for him, but 76 is tough, right? Because it's Zach. 87, 374. He's like. People talk about how slow footed he is, but he's very mobile for his size. I think that's what Ryu kind of lacks. So not, not ruling him out, but I do think it might be the speed of this U19 team if they ever match up against America. Man, it might be a tough matchup. But I'm hoping this is a big summer for him because it will. It'll mean a lot for Canada, especially with his size. Another name Jay on Pitt. I've watched J on Pitt quite, quite a bit. Glue Guy does the dirty work, man. He's always. He's always gonna grab offensive rebounds, scrap for loose balls like glad to see JM Pay told me at the Hoop Summit in April that he was going to be playing. Another guy that told me at the Hoop Summit they were going to play was Spencer Aarons.
Sort of a small ball forward, can shoot the ball really Well, I like Spencer's long term potential and yeah, Spencer going to Boise State, I think he's going to be one of the marquee guys on this roster along with Tristan Beckford and Ifosa. Adrian is another name. I haven't actually watched much of him but he has a ton of support and from one of the I've spoken to a coaches, they've spoken very highly of him. So excited to see Adriel play and one of the two point guards on this roster expected to handle ball him and Jordan Charles to see how they play.
And yeah, if anything with Canada I would say not to say like this is a knock on Jordan Charles Adriel but I think like Miles Saller would have helped with them.
[00:11:00] Speaker D: Right.
[00:11:01] Speaker B: Like imagine you had three guys that can handle the ball. Kind of like that. Kamai Samuels under the name I know he's in training camp.
I don't think he made the roster but I think Kamala Samuel is going to be a very talented player.
Matthew Dan is another name that made the roster. Reliable big. I thought he played really well the U18. He's going to Sam Houston University.
Yeah, I expect him just to do the little things for Canada and have some nice touch around the rim. Aziz Olajuwon, probably the player everyone is most excited to see play for Canada. And I'm honestly really excited. I'll actually have a story in the Toronto Star early next week breaking down Aziz's Canadian origin story and how he ended up playing for Canada.
And I can't believe I'm saying this, I actually spoke to his father, Hakeem Elijahan. Hakeem the dream, which I'm still kind of like starstruck. I'm not going to lie.
We spoke for like 30 minutes.
One of the greatest basketball players of all time.
And I don't know how I got connected with him, but he's told me just everything, just about the origin story. He's wanting to play for Canada, Reach coming to him and like them figuring out a pathway and getting into Easter camp and very much impressing like the folks at Canada basketball. And I think Aziz, he might be the guy on this roster that has pro potential.
So we'll see. He played really well at the top 100 camp and is starting to pick up a lot of offers.
So I'll detail all of that, the origin story and his Canadian roots. How is he Canadian and and yeah, how is he just playing for Canada? So from what I know, Hakeem and the family are all out there at the fever United World cup in Switzerland to watch. So big, big opportunity for him. So still has a year high school left. So, yeah, I'm excited just to share that story and, and yeah, be on the lookout for that. Should come out early next week.
But yeah, this tournament is gonna be very, very fun to watch.
Like I said. Tristan Beckford, E Fosa. I'll have interviews with them right after this break.
But this tournament, I think is key for guys's development, especially this roster. Being a lot of guys outside of Ryu that haven't played college basketball, this is going to be the biggest stage they have played on ever in their life. So a lot of people from Canada will be watching. This is a lot of NBA people will be watching. U19 is where I think a lot of people start to track. NBA scouts, executives start to track and they'll call. A lot of college teams are out there.
Offers will be. Will be handed out. You'll see a lot of those.
A lot of offers. You'll see a lot of it, I'm telling you.
But yeah, like I said. Tristan Beckford, Ifosa Lyogu. I have those interviews. Two of Canada's top players, I believe, in the class of 2025.
This is the interview with them. Enjoy that. We'll bring it to you after this break.
[00:14:09] Speaker A: Foreign.
[00:14:16] Speaker E: Welcome back to the Canadian Basketball Show. I'm joined by the Canadian high school.
[00:14:20] Speaker B: Player of the year, set to play college basketball at South Florida next year. My guy, Tristan Beckford. How you doing, brother?
[00:14:27] Speaker A: I'm good, I'm good. You know, just here living, you know.
[00:14:30] Speaker D: Yeah, Sir.
[00:14:32] Speaker E: How's camp been so far? Fiber U19.
[00:14:34] Speaker A: You know, camp's been good, you know, just to see all the young guys I used to play with, you know, growing up and get to play with them. One last chance before we all go off to different universities or different steps. Next steps in our life, you know, it's just really great.
[00:14:47] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:14:47] Speaker E: What guys have you played with? Give me, give me the list.
[00:14:50] Speaker A: I played with.
Well, I played against a lot of these guys. I played against Efosa when I was younger. I played with Jayon when I was younger. Played against Dante, played against Justice, Played against a lot of different guys here.
[00:15:04] Speaker E: It's a family.
[00:15:05] Speaker A: Yeah, a lot. It's like a little family reunion, you know, we all get to wear the same jersey on our chest now.
[00:15:10] Speaker E: Hell yeah. What does it mean for you just to represent Canada?
[00:15:13] Speaker B: You did it last year.
[00:15:14] Speaker E: FIBA U18, maybe. Talk me through the first time Canada reached out to you and getting to Where Canada crossed your chest.
[00:15:22] Speaker A: You know, it's just great that I get to. That I get to have the chance to represent my country. You know, just. It feels really great to just be able to do that. You know, a lot of. Not a lot of kids get a lot of. Get a chance to do that a lot. So, you know, just. I feel really honored and it's a special moment, so I really. I don't take it for granted.
[00:15:40] Speaker E: When did Canada basketball first reach out to you?
[00:15:42] Speaker A: They first reached out, I think it was last year, Easter camp. And that's when I started trying out and I made the team last year, you know, went down to Argentina. We killed it. We got bronze medal and I got named FIBA U18America.
The FIBA start on five. I did that.
[00:16:01] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:16:01] Speaker E: What was that tournament experience like for you? I feel like you kind of just.
I wasn't shocked because I've heard about you, but a lot of people were.
[00:16:09] Speaker B: Like, who's this Tristan Beckford guy?
[00:16:11] Speaker E: Like, walk me through. And you weren't even starting at first, man. You came off the bench.
Walk me through that.
[00:16:18] Speaker A: You know, just. I didn't really care, you know, just to not start. I just always felt like, you know, when I'm on the court, am I. Am I going to be productive or am I going to be a suck that, you know, I'm not starting?
So I just came with that mentality and just killed it. Whenever I got into the court, I just took advantage of that.
I feel like a lot of people didn't really expect it. You know, I was kind of under the radar. You know, I just started playing on the UIBL circuit a little bit before that. So I guess my name wasn't really out there, but when I got the chance, you know, I just had to put the world on notice.
[00:16:47] Speaker B: Was that your first time?
[00:16:48] Speaker E: I know you played Uplay, right? Was that your first year?
[00:16:49] Speaker A: Yeah, that was.
Yeah, during my first year. Yeah, that's right.
[00:16:53] Speaker E: What was that like playing? You play Will Riley, obviously, but he's entering the draft this year. What was that year like playing? Was you, him, Spencer, also on this team? Who else was on that team?
[00:17:02] Speaker A: It was me, Spencer, Onyx, a few other guys, Bashir, a lot of different guys, you know, from around Canada. And we did pretty good this year, too, you know, made it to the semifinals of Peach. Damn. So, yeah, we did pretty good.
[00:17:15] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:17:15] Speaker E: I asked you about Will. He's obviously going through the draft process. What's it like? I know you guys played with each other. Seeing his journey and like, obviously he's about to hear his name called, right?
[00:17:24] Speaker A: Yeah, for sure, for sure. You know, I'm just proud of him, you know, just.
Just the other day, like, it feels like I was just playing with Will on uplay, you know, seeing him drop, what was it, 40 something points with like three missed shots. Like, that was insane. Like, I was watching, I was like, yeah, like, this kid's gonna be something special. Even playing against him. When I was younger, you know, the little rivalry with me and Woodbridge Lions versus him and KW Vipers, you know.
[00:17:49] Speaker E: Damn, it goes deep.
[00:17:50] Speaker A: It goes deep.
[00:17:51] Speaker E: What age is this?
[00:17:52] Speaker A: This is probably around grade five, grade six. We were really young and then we got to team up for a bit before he went off to Illinois for.
But yeah, it was just. It was just crazy that now, like, you know, he killed it his first year. I was always, you know, I talked to him here and there, you know, checking in on him, see what he's up to.
But yeah, now that he's just going to the NBA draft, it's just crazy, you know, I was just playing with him just the other day.
[00:18:16] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:18:16] Speaker E: By the time this podcast comes out, I believe you'll hear his name called. So we're releasing this right before the FIBA World cup start. But take me back, like we just talked about. U18, you led the team in scoring.
What can we expect from another Tristan beck for FIBA U19 World Cup?
What can we expect this time?
[00:18:33] Speaker A: You know, you're just going to expect, you know, someone that works hard as always, you know, does the little things. If it's not scoring, I'm rebounding. If I'm not rebounding or scoring, I'm lifting up my teammates, you know, just doing whatever I can to help the team win. So I'm just doing everything that I need to do. It could be anything.
[00:18:50] Speaker E: Canadian high school player of the year, too. This past year, what was it like to win that? And tell me, how did you find out?
[00:18:57] Speaker A: It was just good, you know, all the hard work I put in paid off. And just to hear my name called for player of the Year, it means a lot to me. And it was definitely an accomplishment that I want to have a part of my accolades this year.
[00:19:09] Speaker E: How'd you find out?
[00:19:11] Speaker A: During the quench. All Canadian halftime.
[00:19:13] Speaker E: Oh, so you didn't know beforehand?
[00:19:14] Speaker A: I didn't know before, yeah.
[00:19:16] Speaker E: What was your reaction?
[00:19:17] Speaker A: I was kind of happy, you know, once they called me over and like before they called my name, they told me, like, yeah, you're gonna be Quinn Going to be the Canadian player of the year. And I was like, damn, look at my head. I'm like, damn, that's crazy. You know, just like all my hard work paid off and I really. I really did it for real.
[00:19:31] Speaker E: I wanted you to take me through kind of like your high school journey. You played at Vaughan, now Holding Prep. I think you went to the States, Hillcrest Prep, came back to Fort Erie. Tell me just about your journey, going from that school to that school, and then decision to come back to Fort Erie. You guys played in, what's it called? The grind session. Made it to the finals. First Canadian team on the men's side to do that.
What was this year like for you coming back home? Tell me the decision behind that, the.
[00:19:59] Speaker A: Decision to come back home. You know, Charles, he coached me during. He was the assistant coach for Team Canada, and he was my head coach for Uplay. And, you know, we just really had a strong relationship. You know, he always wanted the best for me, and I just liked the way he coached me. He coached me tough because he knew I could handle it.
And I just thought it'd be a good idea for me to join him at four year, you know, for my last year. And it definitely was a great idea. We did. We did pretty good.
A lot of people doubted us. We had some great wins this year, and it was a great group of guys, you know, and I miss them, you know, those my. My brothers. For real. And. Yeah, you know, just. This is definitely a memory I'm going to have for the rest of my life.
[00:20:43] Speaker E: Yeah, it was fun watching you guys compete. I forgot you guys lost to prolific Pratt. That's a great team, right? Darren Peterson company.
Take me through your recruitment. When did things start to heat up? When did you get your first offer? Actually, take me to that.
[00:20:56] Speaker A: I got my first offer. I think it was the first session of EYBL 16U.
It was Seton Hall. I remember after the game, I remember hearing that I got my first offer and I was going wild. I was going crazy. I called my dad, called my mom.
I was going crazy. You know, I never. I didn't think it was going to happen for real. And just hearing those words like.
Like, I just couldn't stop thinking about it. I think I. I slept good that night. I slept really good that night for sure.
[00:21:27] Speaker E: And from that, the offers. How many offers did you end up with?
[00:21:32] Speaker A: I think on somewhere in the range. Double digits. I don't remember. I think it was double digits, though.
[00:21:37] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:21:38] Speaker E: And obviously first you commit to Arkansas State.
But then now end up at South Florida.
Coaching change, obviously Brian Hodgson, heads up, was at Arkansas State, goes to South Florida. Tell me about the decision to commit there and then like follow him. And obviously he recruited you and what made you want to go to South Florida?
[00:21:57] Speaker A: Honestly, why I wanted to go to South Florida was the same reason I wanted to go to Arkansas State. You know, the coaching staff, they, when they talked to me, I really felt that they really believed in me, that I could really be some, like be something big. And the way that they just talked and everything on the visit was. Everything on, like everything was on point. Everything was perfect. It just, it felt like a home. The tradition, everything, it just felt like a home. And that's what stood out to me other than the other places. So I, I definitely realized that I should probably follow Coach Hoshin. It's definitely the best decision.
[00:22:30] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:22:31] Speaker E: Have you been on campus yet?
[00:22:33] Speaker A: Yeah, I went down on a visit.
I think it was April, this April. And it was great. The campus was great, weather was great.
[00:22:41] Speaker E: You know, about to say, you go, I'm jealous, man. Florida, you get to play basketball there and enjoy the weather, man.
[00:22:47] Speaker A: Yeah, the weather in Tampa is definitely, I mean, who doesn't love Florida?
Yeah, the weather's great out there.
[00:22:54] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:22:55] Speaker E: What's your off season kind of look like since the season ended, since the high school season?
[00:23:02] Speaker A: Just a lot of hard work. You know, I've been in the gym, you know, just working on my game, working on my craft, doing the things I need to get better at and just non stop working, you know, hanging off a little bit with my friends, you know, before I leave. But like mostly just work. That's how they've been.
[00:23:18] Speaker E: Yeah, I saw also you've worked out with Wiggins before.
Tell me how that happened and what was that whole experience like?
[00:23:26] Speaker A: You know, Wiggins, he used to go to Vom Prep, so. And I have a few. One of my friend's older brother has a connection with him.
And also, you know, I have a few friends that have connections with him, coaches and stuff. And I just got that opportunity to work out with him and it was great. You know, we talked a little bit, got to play a little one on one after.
[00:23:44] Speaker E: Who won it?
[00:23:45] Speaker A: We're not gonna disclose for that. Hey.
[00:23:47] Speaker E: So he won't disclose that, but what was it like seeing him? Obviously he's an NBA guy, right? Seeing his process, I feel like one of the first guys, one of the first guys, second guy to get drafted. Number one.
Biggest thing you learned maybe from that whole Experience, getting to work out with him.
[00:24:04] Speaker A: I mean the biggest thing, I mean the first thing that I actually realized, just how he carried himself. You know, he carried himself with gratitude. You know, he wasn't like messy, like pants sagging, you know, he was very formal, like even if he wasn't wearing anything, like crazy, you know, just a little tracksuit. Just how he carried himself was very professional.
That was definitely one of the first things that I realized about him. And yeah, I feel like the biggest thing I took away was just your workouts don't really have to be long. It's more about quality over quantity, you know what I mean? I mean, he kept his workouts not too long, about 45 to an hour, but it was non stop.
Just work, just making sure, getting those reps in, making sure that he's doing everything right to perfection.
So that's one of the things that I realized.
[00:24:52] Speaker E: Yeah, efficient, one hour, very efficient.
[00:24:54] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:24:56] Speaker E: What can we expect maybe from this roster, from this U19 team?
From training camp you've been in obviously a few days now.
What do you expect? What can we expect? What style of play do you see this team playing with you at the helm?
[00:25:09] Speaker A: We're a bunch of dogs. That's all it is.
I'm not going to, I'm not going to say too much because I don't want to, you know, ruin the little surprise that we got for everyone watching. But we're definitely going to upset a lot of teams. We're definitely going to put the world on notice, put Canada on notice.
[00:25:24] Speaker E: What are you talking about? The surprise?
[00:25:25] Speaker B: Is it like a celebration?
[00:25:26] Speaker E: Like, can you hint at it?
[00:25:27] Speaker A: Not even a celebration. Just. I feel like we're going to shock a lot of people and I'm not going to say too much to just, you know, ruin it, you know, keep going on about it. But when people see, people see, I'm excited.
[00:25:38] Speaker E: Most memorable moment for you in high school?
[00:25:43] Speaker A: I'd probably say my first offer.
Yeah.
[00:25:45] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:25:47] Speaker E: Anything else that stands out? Grind session, running, making that run. What was that like? Whole experience you talk about.
I see you how when I mentioned that team, you were like.
[00:25:56] Speaker B: I could see the smile on your face.
[00:25:58] Speaker E: Just the memories going through it. What made that group so special?
[00:26:02] Speaker A: Just a lot of people doubting us. You know, we had a lot of injuries throughout the years.
Throughout the year. You know, a lot of people were injured, in and out, in and out, including myself. You know, I was out for a little bit, maybe like two months before playoffs. And coming back in was kind of hard you know, getting back into the flow, but, you know, I made it work and just going into grind session, you know, a lot of people doubted us, didn't, definitely did not expect us to make it that far, you know, upsetting a lot of big teams. Well, they call it an upset. You know, we call it, you know, it's just like what we do. You know, a lot of people were saying that's upset when we beat you to prep. You know, we beat them before. It's not an upset. If you do it twice, then it's definitely not an upset.
[00:26:39] Speaker E: That was a crazy game that I watched when you guys played them at the Pan Am Center.
What was that win like?
Obviously AJ is, he's considered like 1, 2, like top guy that's going to go be drafted next year. Yeah, I feel like y' all, y' all, y' all showed, man what kind of basketball was about.
[00:26:56] Speaker B: What was that?
[00:26:56] Speaker E: What do you think that win meant to Canada? And just, I love Dang too. The way he gets into guys face, man, the trash talking like, that's dang for you.
[00:27:06] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:27:06] Speaker E: So tell me about just what that, what that win was like and showing that you guys can compete against the best teams in the States.
[00:27:14] Speaker A: You know, a lot of people have been telling me, like, it's probably one of the biggest wins in Canadian history. You know, just having one of the. I think they were the 6th ranked team, 6, 6 ranked team from North America coming down and playing us. And you know, a lot of people thought it was going to be a blowout. A lot of people were saying, like, yeah, you guys are done for. But you know, we're, we're some dogs. Like, it doesn't matter who we're matched up against. Like, we're gonna, we're gonna work, we're gonna try our best, you know, do everything that we can, you know, and we pulled it off. You know, I knew that we could, I knew them, what my, my brothers were capable of, what Coach Charles is capable of. I, I trust him. He trusts us. And once we stepped onto the coral, just.
You seen a different version of everyone. Just a killer mentality. You could see it in their eyes. Like there's pictures from the games. You could see how locked in everyone was. Like, yeah, everyone's cheering, but everyone's still locked in. It was just a different mentality and environment in that gym when, once the.
[00:28:09] Speaker E: Game started, I was courtside for that. So it was, it was a great.
[00:28:13] Speaker B: Experience watching that live.
[00:28:16] Speaker E: I feel like, I feel like people.
[00:28:18] Speaker B: Know you, but I feel like you're still underrated in a sense.
[00:28:21] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:28:21] Speaker E: What do you feel like is the most underrated part about your game that people don't maybe give enough love to or, like, recognize?
[00:28:28] Speaker A: Definitely my shot, I definitely improved over the year. Like, even this year, I. I shot the ball at a pretty high rate, and I guess a lot of people don't really notice that because they only see the flashy stuff, the dunks, you know, all that. I mean, that's still great, but I guess they don't really see that I really improve my jumper. It's definitely one of the things I've been working on over the past couple of years.
[00:28:48] Speaker E: What does the work go into? Tell me the process. Who you working out with? What does that look like to get.
[00:28:52] Speaker B: The shot where it is?
[00:28:54] Speaker A: My trainer, Jojo, you know, we spent a lot of hours, yeah, five am's in the gym, you know, just working form, shooting, fixing my form, just getting reps up and it's paid off. You know, all the early mornings, the hours in the gym, you know, the sore. Sore shoulders, sore knees, sore legs, you know, but still thugging it out, you know, it's all paid off.
[00:29:16] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:29:17] Speaker E: I was gonna ask, like, what part of your game are you most proud of or that you're like, man, is it the shooting that you would take?
[00:29:24] Speaker A: Yeah, definitely my shooting. Yeah.
[00:29:26] Speaker E: Any favorite players you have that, that you kind of watch, that you. That you admire, that you're like, I want to add this to my game or any. Anything that you, You.
You watch in terms of just adding to your bag.
[00:29:38] Speaker A: One of the things I've been watching recently is that Andrew Nemhardt bump, like, the way he just creates a space, you know, moving guys are like twice the size, twice his size. Like Giannis, Brook Lopez, like, he's throwing them out the way. Like, I just think it's crazy how someone, people say so little could just create space like that. And it's definitely something, you know, I've been looking, you know, trying to learn how I could add it to my bag. You know, I'm probably gonna. If I ever get the chance to talk to him, you know, it's definitely one of the things I want to talk to him about, like, just to improve it to my game, you know, trying to improve me, like, as a player.
[00:30:15] Speaker E: Yeah, I think that's. That's a subtle thing. You know, people don't realize that the way he bumps people, man, if you added that to your game, soon come.
[00:30:23] Speaker A: It'll be. It'll be Crazy, you know, I'll be bumping people left and right on the non stop. Use that.
[00:30:28] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:30:28] Speaker E: Shay, obviously. MVP Shay too.
[00:30:31] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:30:31] Speaker E: What's it been like watching another Canadian be on a stage like this? We got four Canadians in the NBA finals, but him win mvp likely. Honestly, I don't know. By the time we're recording this could have won the championship by now.
First time since Steve Nash, right. For Canadian to win MVP. 06. What's it like for you seeing another Canadian win that award?
[00:30:52] Speaker A: It's just great to see Canadian players coming in and shocking the world. You know, most people think it's going to be the US or Jokic and people like that, but just seeing another Canadian guy and just making history, it's really great to see.
[00:31:07] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:31:08] Speaker E: What's your mindset heading into this tournament?
[00:31:11] Speaker A: Just straight kill, you know, don't be. I'm not. I'm not scared of anyone. I won't back down from anyone. That's just the type of person I've always been with, you know, been like, that's how my. My parents have raised me and, you know, like, don't be scared of anyone. And that's just my mentality going in, you know, I just want to go and win it all and just kill.
[00:31:30] Speaker E: Can I get. Expect a poster?
[00:31:33] Speaker A: We'll see, we'll see, you know, see how my legs are feeling. Yeah, but, you know, someone's under the rim and I got the chance and they might get put on.
On a poster for sure.
[00:31:43] Speaker E: Tristan, my guy, can't thank you enough for joining the podcast.
[00:31:46] Speaker A: No problem, no problem.
[00:31:47] Speaker E: It'll be fun watching you at the FEBA U19. Everyone tap in. I think honestly your name we're going to be talking a lot about in the next few years to come. So I can't thank you enough, my guy.
[00:31:57] Speaker A: Yeah, thank you. I appreciate it.
Foreign.
[00:32:08] Speaker E: Welcome back to the Canadian Basketball Show. I'm joined by one of Canada's top prospects in The Class of 2025, set.
[00:32:15] Speaker B: To play college basketball at Butler Efosa.
[00:32:19] Speaker E: Holyoku. How you doing, my guy?
[00:32:20] Speaker C: I'm doing good. I'm doing good. How are you?
[00:32:22] Speaker E: Good, Good, brother. How's camping?
[00:32:24] Speaker C: Camp has been good so far. I feel like there's a lot of competition here, a lot of talent, so just excited to get on the road and go.
[00:32:31] Speaker E: Tristan was telling me a lot of you guys grew up playing with against each other.
[00:32:35] Speaker B: How many guys on this roster did.
[00:32:37] Speaker E: You know and what's it like to play with some of these guys?
[00:32:40] Speaker C: I would definitely Say, like, I know there's 14 of us right now, maybe a good like nine or 10 of them I played against or, like, played with. And yeah, just like all of us growing up, like, growing up together and then as well playing together, I feel like, you know, it's good that, you know, we all kind of just stayed with each other and then after also all being able to represent our country, I think is important.
[00:33:00] Speaker E: What are you most excited about heading to the FIBA U19 World Cup? Switzerland. Have you been?
[00:33:06] Speaker C: I've never been to Switzerland, no. But I'll say I'm most excited for just the competition because I've never really played on a world stage before. You know, I've played the Americas, but I just feel like there's definitely going to be a lot of good. Like, there's not going to be a team that's going to be bad. So, like, I feel like it's going to be very exciting. Very good to know, get my name out there and, you know, know, show people what I can do.
[00:33:26] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:33:27] Speaker E: Tristan was saying you guys are headed France first. You excited?
[00:33:29] Speaker B: You going to go Eiffel Tower?
[00:33:30] Speaker E: You gonna take some pics? What's the scene like gonna be like there?
[00:33:34] Speaker C: You know, hopefully we can explore a little bit. You know, I feel like, you know, it's Paris, France, who, you know, not a lot of people get to go there. So definitely looking to explore and looking to have fun, but also, you know, go there to do what we came here to do.
[00:33:46] Speaker E: Yeah, obviously you were part of the FIBA U18 team last year. What was that experience like? And take me through just the first time Canada basketball reached out to you.
[00:33:55] Speaker C: They reached out to me. Like, I think right after quarantine, that's the first time I played with the 16U team.
We went to Mexico. That was around the first time they reached out to me. And I feel like just the experience playing, like, the Americas and playing against different countries and once again, like, you know, having, you know, Canada on the front and your name on the back, I feel like it's really important.
[00:34:17] Speaker E: I was asked, what does it mean for you to represent Canada on a world stage like that? Represent your family, represent your people. What's that like?
[00:34:26] Speaker C: I feel like once again, it's just a whole bunch of representation. So, you know, I'm going to go out there and do, do my all, but leave it all on the floor.
You know, once again, playing for the country, you know, repping your name as well. I feel like it's very important because you never Know what it could do for you in like, the long run.
[00:34:42] Speaker E: How was the FIBA UA team? Kind of touched on it. What was that experience like? And playing in that tournament? And just walk me through that tournament. What do you remember about it? And just obviously the lead up to.
[00:34:53] Speaker C: This, I would say it was very fun, to be honest, once again, being able to travel, travel the world. We went to Argentina, you know, played against a lot of good countries over there as well. So I feel like the whole thing was. Was just a good thing to experience.
[00:35:08] Speaker E: I want to go through your recruitment. Obviously, I feel like you were one of the most touted prospects coming out a lot of college offers. What was it like dealing with all that kind of stuff and schools hitting you up left, left to right?
[00:35:20] Speaker C: It definitely felt really good. It felt like, you know, I'm accomplishing something. I feel like a lot of people have the aspirations to play D1 basketball. So I feel like, you know, it just shows all the hard work that I. That I put into it.
And then after, as well as just even committing as well, like being able to, you know, call someone somewhere your home and like those type of things, I feel like it's really good yet.
[00:35:41] Speaker E: Butler, like we said, we committed there. When did they first reach out and what was that recruitment process like?
[00:35:48] Speaker C: I would say they kind of reached out a bit late.
Like they weren't like they're the last school that offered me. Then after, when I went over there on the visit, I kind of just, you know, liked how they were running things over there. So I feel like that was like the main thing.
[00:36:02] Speaker E: How many offers did you have in total?
Hard to count.
[00:36:05] Speaker C: Honestly, I've never really counted, but like, it was definitely over 20.
[00:36:09] Speaker E: What was the first offer? You got to remember that the pole.
[00:36:12] Speaker C: The Paul, the part.
[00:36:12] Speaker E: What was that feeling like? Do you remember where you were when you got that first offer?
[00:36:15] Speaker C: It was in. It was in Atlanta. It was actually right after a you game. I got. I got the. I wasn't the phone call, but it was in like grade. I think grade eight or grade nine.
[00:36:24] Speaker E: Wow.
[00:36:24] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:36:25] Speaker E: Now what's it been like? I feel like your journey, seeing you, I feel like you're always in the spotlight.
[00:36:33] Speaker A: Right?
[00:36:33] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:36:33] Speaker E: How do you deal with that?
Because also just talking to you, like times we chat, I feel like you're very humble, grounded. You know, everyone I've talked to just about you is like ifosa. Ifos is just like just a normal kid. But I'm guessing, obviously all this attention too has been. Been a lot Too. But what's it been like dealing with that?
[00:36:51] Speaker C: I'll definitely say, like, I've just always been level headed because you never know what could happen.
Definitely, like grateful for like the people around me, especially, like, you know, my family, you know, they. They kind of raised me in a sense, so, you know, they always raised me to be humble, be like raised me to be like, grateful, like those type of things. So I feel like that's why I am the way I am.
[00:37:12] Speaker E: So, yeah, tell me. Obviously, Butler gets into your recruitment a bit late.
[00:37:19] Speaker A: What.
[00:37:19] Speaker E: What was the thing that sold you on them?
[00:37:21] Speaker C: I'll definitely just say, once again, like, the way they ran things over there, like the head coach over there, Coach Mata and even coach Mojo, he's also from Canada.
I feel like just the way they ran things over there and I feel like it's just, it's a big school.
I feel like, yeah, once again, like, the way they ran things over there was very like, you know, like they have a plan for everyone. They have, like they know what they want to do with you. So.
[00:37:45] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:37:45] Speaker E: Jamil Telfer, obviously another Canadian that just finished up his time there. Did you reach out to him? Did you chat with him about his time at Butler and I guess you probably tapped into what he did there?
[00:37:55] Speaker C: Yeah, I mean, I haven't really chatted to him much, but like, I know like whenever I went on the visits or like, if I ever just saw him, like, we'll definitely just talk about it and I kind of just give me like his experience on like how he would, like how he liked it over there. So.
[00:38:07] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:38:08] Speaker E: Have you been on campus yet?
[00:38:09] Speaker C: I have been on campus.
[00:38:10] Speaker E: What was that like?
[00:38:11] Speaker C: I mean, I. I was actually there like this last couple of months. I was there for like majority of the month of May.
[00:38:16] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:38:17] Speaker E: Working out?
[00:38:18] Speaker C: Yeah, just working out, trying to get into it, you know, practices, all those type of things. And I feel like it's definitely good for me. It's definitely very hard, like, you know, a lot of hard work. But, you know, this is what I signed up for. So just ready to work.
[00:38:32] Speaker E: I was gonna ask, what's the offseason look like since the end of the high school season? It's been season ends. I'm guessing you're in the gym and then going to Butler. Walk me through it all.
[00:38:40] Speaker C: So I would say like right after the season then I know, like, for like the last couple, like years. I'll say like four or five years. Like obviously being in high school and like playing AAU and All those things definitely takes a toll on your body.
[00:38:53] Speaker E: I was gonna say, have you had a break?
[00:38:55] Speaker C: I would say, like, in that little time period, like, yes, I'll still go to the gym and yes, I'll still, you know, put up shots and those type of things. But, you know, I feel like that was, like, the time where I kind of had a break. And I feel like the off season, like, that's the time where you actually, like, you have to work the most, but at the same time, you can also still get your rest and, like, all those type of things.
[00:39:13] Speaker E: So what is the office? What does, like, an off day look like for you? What do you do? What is it for people that don't know? Are you a Netflix guy, 2K guy? Like, what does off season or break look like?
[00:39:24] Speaker C: I would say I spend a lot of my time sleeping.
[00:39:27] Speaker A: Sleeping a lot.
[00:39:27] Speaker C: Like, I sleep a lot.
[00:39:28] Speaker E: How tall are you?
[00:39:30] Speaker C: I'm six. Six.
[00:39:30] Speaker E: So that's how you grow, huh?
[00:39:32] Speaker C: Yeah, like, I sleep. Yeah. I've always. I've always, like, I've always been a sleeper, so I would say definitely a lot of sleep. And I love listening to music.
[00:39:40] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:39:41] Speaker E: Well, music. Can you put me on to some. Some guys coming up.
[00:39:45] Speaker C: I listen to a lot of Afrobeats.
[00:39:46] Speaker E: Okay.
[00:39:48] Speaker C: I feel like the. More like the mainstream ones.
[00:39:51] Speaker E: Okay.
[00:39:52] Speaker C: So, like, Burna Boy, Thames, Wizkid, Davido, like, those type of people.
[00:39:57] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:39:58] Speaker C: I feel like I'm a big music person in general, though, so I listen to, like, everything.
[00:40:02] Speaker E: Are you. Are you. What are you talking.
[00:40:03] Speaker B: Roddy Rich.
[00:40:04] Speaker E: That's my guy.
[00:40:05] Speaker B: Oh, don't do that.
[00:40:07] Speaker C: Yeah, I haven't listened to any of his music since 2020. Like, I didn't even know he was still making music, but damn.
[00:40:13] Speaker A: Really?
[00:40:14] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:40:14] Speaker E: You can't tell me. He had one of the greatest debuts.
I forgot what to feed the streets and some other songs.
[00:40:23] Speaker B: Right.
[00:40:23] Speaker E: He's gonna come back.
[00:40:25] Speaker B: He's gonna make.
[00:40:25] Speaker C: It's possible. I feel like I used to really like him. Like, I listened. Like, it was one album that, like, made me really like him. I can't remember what it's called. Maybe off season or like. Yeah, it was like a black and white cover screen or something.
[00:40:37] Speaker E: I think I know what you're talking about.
But that's my guy, though. Roddy Rich. Anybody? Anybody? Listen, that's. That's what I'd be playing when I'm in the car. What else are you a young boy guy?
[00:40:47] Speaker C: I like old, young boy. I don't really listen to his new Music.
[00:40:49] Speaker E: Yeah. I'm trying to think.
[00:40:51] Speaker C: Anybody else I listen to like Chef G, Sleepy Hollow.
[00:40:54] Speaker E: Okay. Okay.
[00:40:55] Speaker C: Yeah, I would say like Drake.
[00:40:57] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:40:57] Speaker C: I like Meek Mill.
[00:40:58] Speaker E: Any.
[00:40:58] Speaker B: Toronto.
[00:40:59] Speaker E: I feel like Toronto music's kind of been.
[00:41:02] Speaker C: Not so much. No. I mean, there's my brother, but like he hasn't really released any music lately.
[00:41:08] Speaker E: Tell me about that. Your brother's into music?
[00:41:09] Speaker C: Yeah, he's into music.
[00:41:10] Speaker A: He.
[00:41:11] Speaker C: He raps. Yeah, his name is Cosign.
[00:41:14] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:41:14] Speaker E: Give me a song, man. What I need to tap into.
[00:41:16] Speaker C: He has a song called get It In.
[00:41:19] Speaker E: Get it in?
[00:41:19] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:41:20] Speaker E: Okay. Right after this, I'm a tap in.
[00:41:22] Speaker C: You should tap in.
[00:41:23] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:41:24] Speaker C: I have, I think I have. I also have like another. I have like two videos on my, my Instagram of like my mixtapes and like his songs over. So.
[00:41:32] Speaker E: Saying it flows well, huh?
[00:41:33] Speaker C: Yeah, it feels really, really good.
[00:41:35] Speaker E: What was that dynamic? Like, I'm guessing. I know you have a sister. What's the, how many, how many siblings?
[00:41:39] Speaker C: I have four siblings.
[00:41:40] Speaker E: What's that, what's that dynamic? Like? Are you the youngest?
[00:41:42] Speaker C: I am the youngest.
[00:41:43] Speaker E: Are you the one that's getting the, the best treatment?
[00:41:46] Speaker C: I mean, honestly. Yeah, I always got, I kind of always just got everything. I feel like I was definitely spoiled. Like, everything I wanted, I kind of got. But once again, like, even like the whole humbleness and like the level headedness, like I feel like just being the youngest, like, you know, for example, I could be getting all this like, you know, praise like outside of my house, but then when I go home, like you have to do. Yeah, like I said, with all of my siblings just getting on me.
[00:42:10] Speaker E: So now that's good, that's good to go home to. That foundation, you know, they keep you straight and like, you know. Yeah, I was going to ask just about. Oh, you went to OTE last year. What was that experience like? First, I remember I did a story on that one. When you went out there first Canadian kids ever play for ote, what was that experience like playing on a stage like that and yeah, like you guys end up winning the championship too.
[00:42:33] Speaker C: Yeah, I'll definitely say it was, it was definitely experience. I learned, I learned from.
I would say, like it was, it was like something I needed to go through. So I feel like, you know, my experience there was really good. You know, the coaches there, players, all the people there, very good people.
They kind of helped me through the year as well. So yeah, I would say it was, it was a good experience.
[00:42:53] Speaker E: Biggest thing you learned from that, from.
[00:42:55] Speaker C: That whole time There, the biggest thing I would say I learned maybe, like, maybe, like, hard work in a sense, because, like, I feel like I always put in hard work, but as well as, you know, being in a different type of vicinity and like, around different types of people, like, you see other people's, like, definition of hard work. So there's that as well.
[00:43:18] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:43:18] Speaker E: Obviously, decision to come back home. Tell me about that.
And playing. Playing in Canada. Tristan just made the same decision to us talking about him.
What was it like to come back home? And I feel like people don't recognize, like, sometimes, like.
Like, I think the OT experience was. Obviously, was a great experience, but coming back home and like, playing in your home, home city, playing close to family, all that kind of stuff. What was that whole, like, whole thing like, for you?
[00:43:45] Speaker C: I'll say it was definitely the best decision for me, like, at that moment in time, you know, even, like, with the recruitment process, like, just being around people who, you know, have your best interest and, like, those type of things, I feel like that was also a big part of it as well.
[00:44:00] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:44:00] Speaker E: I was going to ask, was schools calling you, though, when they're hearing, hey, you feel some might be leaving OT or schools, what was that like?
[00:44:06] Speaker C: I mean, yeah, schools were definitely, like, thinking I was going back. I feel like it wasn't until, like, the season really started over there. That's when people realized, like, I wasn't gonna be there anymore and, like, I was gonna be back home.
[00:44:17] Speaker E: Dope. I want to go back to FIBA U19. How would. What's been, like, your favorite thing about camp so far?
[00:44:23] Speaker C: Definitely just the energy. I feel like everyone has brought, like, their A game. Everyone has brought energy. Like, practices have been very, like, intense. Very, you know, like, everyone's just kind of getting into it. So I'll definitely say just the vicinity in general.
[00:44:36] Speaker E: What style play can we expect from this team? Tristan was saying, we got a bunch of dogs. Like, yeah, tell me, what can we expect from this team?
[00:44:44] Speaker C: Definitely a lot of. A lot of dogs. I feel like everyone who's here wants to be here. They want to represent the country. So, you know, I feel like everyone's just going to leave it on the floor.
[00:44:53] Speaker E: Can I get a poster?
[00:44:55] Speaker C: You get. You can get, like, a poster for sure.
[00:44:57] Speaker E: Okay. I'm saying I need something from this, from the United scene. I could post online.
I want to ask you just about something. Obviously. You said you're the off season, working on your game. Well, what do you feel like you've been honing, almost preparing for College basketball.
[00:45:11] Speaker C: I'll definitely say my conditioning as well as my shooting. I feel like since I've gone to school and come back, like both of those have improved a whole bunch. So just I guess staying consistent and doing what I have to do.
[00:45:23] Speaker E: What do you feel like is the most underrated part about your game? Because obviously people see the dunking. Right? I see it.
I feel like you're a very, very underrated passer.
[00:45:32] Speaker C: Yeah, I was going to say maybe passing or like playmaking.
[00:45:35] Speaker E: Tell me about that because I know it's been a. It's been something you've been honing in on to. Just why do you feel like it's something people don't recognize? Because they see the Duncan and I'm seeing a poster every other day, but I'm like, this guy can pass the ball at his size.
Yeah, tell me about that.
[00:45:51] Speaker C: I'll just say like, I guess whatever team I'm on. Like, for example, like I know in grade eight, like grade is obviously a long time ago, but in grade eight I was, I was a big.
So like, you know, people didn't really see much of the passing. And then after grade nine, I went from a big to like a, like a shooting guard, small forward. So you know, I'm always on the wing, slashing, doing those type of things. But yeah, like even this, like last year, I would say like I had the ball in my hands a lot more so I was able to playmake and do what I like doing. So.
[00:46:20] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:46:21] Speaker E: What are you looking to showcase just for yourself in this game? Obviously we talked about the offseason work. What are you looking to showcase in this World Cup?
[00:46:28] Speaker C: Definitely just that I'm a consistent player all around player, can do everything.
Definitely show that I can defend, you know, deflections, all those type of things.
[00:46:38] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:46:38] Speaker E: Che just won MVP. First time a Canadian's won it since 06. What was your reaction seeing it and yeah, like Felix, we haven't had Canadian talent. Canadian talent on the way. What are your thoughts on Shay1 MVP?
[00:46:52] Speaker C: I think that's. I think that's amazing. Like, it's great.
Definitely putting on for our country as well, you know, definitely get more eyes here as well. So I feel like, you know, everything he's doing right now is definitely, you know, helping out the next generation.
[00:47:05] Speaker D: Yeah, I feel like there's a lot.
[00:47:06] Speaker E: Of you guys on this team that can be the next Shay, you know, or we could see it coming.
Any favorite players you watch, try to emulate your game after or like take Things that you're like. I want to add this to my bag.
[00:47:18] Speaker C: I would say I like. I like watching a bit of Anthony Edwards.
Yeah.
I guess just the fact that he's consistent with everything he's doing, the way he gets to the rim, the way he playmakes all those type of things. So I try to pick up some things from his game as well.
[00:47:33] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:47:34] Speaker E: Markham, right?
[00:47:34] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:47:35] Speaker E: Tell me, what's the best thing to do in Markham? Tell me food spots in Markham that are underrated.
Is there some chicken parm I could get in Markham?
[00:47:46] Speaker C: I mean, like, yes, I'm from Markham, but I feel like I never really spent much of my time in Markham.
[00:47:51] Speaker E: Where do you feel like you spend your time?
[00:47:52] Speaker C: I would say Scarborough.
[00:47:53] Speaker E: Scar. So. But what do you claim, though?
[00:47:55] Speaker C: I claim Marco.
[00:47:56] Speaker E: Okay.
[00:47:56] Speaker C: You know, that's where. That's where, like, I lived. I went to school in Marcom.
[00:47:59] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:48:00] Speaker C: Until high school, though. High school. That's when I now went to Scarborough.
[00:48:03] Speaker E: So. Scarborough, any food spots that you're like, you got to touch this.
[00:48:07] Speaker C: Island Spice is really good.
It's a Caribbean spot. Island Spice is good.
Suya spot, that's another good spot.
And, like, I don't know if you've heard of Chris Jerk, because Jerk is good as well.
[00:48:21] Speaker E: Okay. I'm take you up on it. I'm gonna touch those spots. What are you most excited about now, after this obviously ends College basket. What are you most excited about for that?
[00:48:32] Speaker C: Definitely just getting started. And, you know, I feel like, once again, like, I'm just so excited to, you know, like, be Division one, be able to play on that type of stage. So just getting ready for that, my guy.
[00:48:46] Speaker E: Folks, I can't thank you enough for jumping on podcast. I'm so excited to follow your journey in the next few years, man.
And, yeah, especially this Fever 19 team, man. Appreciate you.
[00:48:56] Speaker C: Thank you.
[00:48:56] Speaker E: Thank you, my guy.
